"When I started boot camp, it had been over 5 years since I had sustained any type of consistent exercise. I know because my oldest child will turn 5 in October. With a 4 year old and a 1 year old at home with 2 working parents, there isn’t much free time to do anything. I had recently gotten back into indoor rock climbing, going once a week but more for fun than fitness, and had definitely hit a plateau of improvement there. I didn’t eat well, I didn’t (and still don’t) get much sleep, and when I came home from work I just wanted to sit (which isn’t much fun for my soon to be 5 year old). My wife and I made a commitment that we both needed to find time to work out to improve our general health, but we had both tried joining a normal gym before with little success. We would go for a few week and then slowly come back to the normal routine.
12 weeks ago my wife joined Top Gun cross fit, and she is still going strong 3 days a week. I just finished my boot camp session, and I don’t see myself slowing back down any time soon. The “we are all in this together” attitude of the classes, and a little friendly peer competition, keeps me motivated to keep showing up and pushing for better results. After 6 weeks I am thinking a lot more about what I eat, I have much more energy when I get home at the end of the day, and I am actually seeing improvement in my weekly climbing session. My legs and abs are much stronger than when I started and I see a noticeable difference in my endurance during workouts. I’m really looking forward to starting to learn weight lifting techniques and learning new exercises, and I look forward to getting to class each day. It really has been a great experience."
