ATHLETE MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS:
 

NAME:  Karina Carlson

JOB:  Marketing Manager

FAVORITE MUSIC TYPE / GROUP:  Depends on my mood! 80's rock is always a good go-to.

CHILDREN / PETS ?:  2 cats and a newly adopted puppy

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT:  Lake Tahoe 

HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE CROSSFIT AND WHAT MADE YOU TRY IT OUT ?  

4 years. I just finished grad school and very much needed to jumpstart my fitness. Ben wanted me to try barbells, I wanted something with more cardio. CrossFit seemed like the a good compromise. We ended up really enjoying CrossFit and I had to admit how much I liked barbell work.

WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CROSSFIT AT FIRST?  

I had very mixed feelings about CrossFit. I had a few friends do it who were very dedicated and others who tried it and dropped out after a few weeks because it was so "intense". After going through the bootcamp however, I realized that every movement had a scaled back version and there was so much support from coaches and members for just showing up and putting in the effort regardless of skill level. I was also surprised by how that sense of community and encouragement persisted when I did drop-ins at other gyms during travel. 

DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT CROSSFIT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE:  

Everyday is a new challenge. I never go into a class knowing what to expect even if I know what the movements are ahead of time. CrossFit helped me to push myself in a way I never thought possible. Now I can do things I never thought possible: strict pull-ups, rope climbing, and heavy lifting.

FAVORITE WORKOUT:  12 Days of Christmas WOD

FAVORITE MOVEMENT:  Cleans

FAVORITE MUSIC TYPE / GROUP: Heavy Metal - Especially for WODs  

CHILDREN / PETS ?:  Karina has 2 Cats, I have a Pittbull.

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT:  Scotland

HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE CROSSFIT AND WHAT MADE YOU TRY IT OUT ?

Off and on for 4 years. Karina made me do it. 

WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CROSSFIT AT FIRST? 

I loved it right away, and then had second thoughts after the first WOD with burpees.... I still hate burpees, but it's worth it 

DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT CROSSFIT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE:  

I have always loved weight training, but I hate steady-state cardio. Crossfit is the best of both.

FAVORITE WORKOUT:  "Grace". I love cleans and short, intense WODs.
