APRIL MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS
Published April 1, 2019
JOB: Attorney at the State of Minnesota
FAVORITE MUSIC TYPE / GROUP: Anything that makes me want to dance (but I actually avoid dancing), which means mostly electronic or pop. Never country.
CHILDREN / PETS ?: Are cats pets? They certainly are not dogs. We have a rescue cat and she lives a decent life of laziness in our house.
FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: Rainy Lake which is part of Minnesota's one and only National Park--Voyageur's. Check it out.
HOBBIES: Well if work was asking, I would probably say Crossfit. But I also enjoy video games and cooking.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE CROSSFIT AND WHAT MADE YOU TRY IT OUT ? Almost two years. FOMO (fear of missing out). Charlie said he was going to do bootcamp at a gym a few blocks away and I had to see what it was all about for myself.
WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CROSSFIT AT FIRST? Is this a cult? (Sort of, meet your new friends). Will they make me do the Whole 30? (No)
DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT CROSSFIT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE: First, it is the community. It is such a friendly and supportive place. But next--it is the realization that you really can do just about anything you set your mind to. Many times I've had self doubt and proven myself wrong and exceeded my own expectations. And last, one of the neatest things about Crossfit is how different people can excel based on the work out. I have really enjoyed the 2019 Open and seeing how the varied workouts allow different people to shine based on their abilities.
FAVORITE WORKOUT: DT
FAVORITE MOVEMENT: Power clean
JOB: Political hack
FAVORITE MUSIC TYPE / GROUP: Anything subversive OR anything hyper-normative.
CHILDREN / PETS ?: No kids, but Rachel's cat has adopted me.
FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: Places that have snow and mountains
HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE CROSSFIT AND WHAT MADE YOU TRY IT OUT ? Almost 2 years. It was near my house.
WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CROSSFIT AT FIRST? I just wanted Coach Aubrey to stop yelling at me to keep going. Rachel said I needed a nicer answer so here goes: These folks are intense! I dig it
DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT CROSSFIT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE: I really love the announcements at the beginning of each class. Rachel said I needed a nicer answer so here it is: There are a lot of things CrossFit has taught me, but one lesson that sticks out is how to break down a workout that seems difficult-to-impossible into more manageable bits. I find myself using that approach more and more frequently outside of the gym
FAVORITE WORKOUT: I like WODs that involve a lot of different types of movements.
FAVORITE MOVEMENT: Burpees. Without question.
