JOB: Administrative Assistant
FAVORITE MUSIC TYPE / GROUP: Anything with a good beat and lyrics, but recently I've noticed a female-vocals trend in my playlists. YEBBA, Ella Eyre, SZA and Janelle Monae are some of my favs!!
CHILDREN / PETS?: Stepmommy to two beautiful kitties :)
FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: The BWCA or 4 corners area. Anywhere without cell reception
HOBBIES: Canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, camping...really anything that will get me outside and moving. Oh, and eating. Especially exploring new cuisines!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE CROSSFIT AND WHAT MADE YOU TRY IT OUT ? I'm still fairly new - only 3 months or so. I have always been active and loved lifting weights, but I constantly hit plateaus and wasn't satisfied with my progress. A friend of mine is an avid crossfitter and convinced me to try it out!
WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CROSSFIT AT FIRST? That you had to be this big, swole, able-to-lift-a-car-while-running-a-marathon athlete. I put off joining for several months because I never thought I was in good enough shape. Once I joined though, I realized how accommodating the workouts can be and meet you where you're at. I also quickly noticed the amazing community; so supportive and non-judgmental!
DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT CROSSFIT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE: I love how everyday is a new workout. The versatile movements really keep you from getting into a rut. It's impacted my life in more ways than 1, but most notably with my knees/joints. I've had a thing called Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was a toddler and had to be on some pretty intense meds my whole life. A couple years ago I decided enough was enough and made some changes to my diet/fitness lifestyle in hopes of being able to be med-free. While working out daily helped enough to get off the medications, I would still wake up stiff some mornings and not feel 100%. Since joining Top Gun I haven't had any problems!! No stretching out my legs in the morning or feeling stiff after a day at the office. It's been a game changer.
FAVORITE WORKOUT: I really like fast-moving, cardio-intensive workouts. Doubleunders, box jumps, hang cleans, etc. are where it's at! A nice combo of fast barbell and plyometric movements are my favorite.
