ATHLETE IN PROFILE

 NAME: Suzanne Anderson 

 JOB: Trainer at HealthPartners 

FAVORITE MUSIC TYPE / GROUP: I mostly listen to Podcasts or classical music, though I do enjoy a good pop song during a WOD

CHILDREN / PETS ?: An 11 year old daughter, three cats and a bearded dragon named Jean-Luc. 

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: I wish. Realistically, my summer vacations are me in a lounge chair in our family-size tree fort with a good book and a cold beverage. 

HOBBIES: Besides Crossfit, I love to read, cook, raise houseplants, garden and ferment things: kombucha, sauerkraut, sourdough, etc. Long live the microbiome!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE CROSSFIT AND WHAT MADE YOU TRY IT OUT ? I believe this is my third-ish year at TGCF. I have always worked out on my own but was getting really bored and losing motivation. I knew I wasn't pushing myself to get the results I wanted. I live nearby and hemmed and hawed for about a year before I got over my intimidation and became curious enough to call. 

WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CROSSFIT AT FIRST? I was super nervous and convinced I would 1) fall on my ass with a giant barbell on my head, 2) have a heart attack and/or 3) look like a fool. I worried Crossfit wasn't for a "regular" person like me. But I was hooked after the very first class. 

DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT CROSSFIT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE: Love the people- the coaches are great and I love the morning crew!  I love getting the push from others to challenge myself. I am way more fit and strong in my 40s then I've ever been in my life. I can do things I never would have believed I could do when I started. Every workout gives me a huge sense of accomplishment, even when I finish last.  It makes me so much healthier physically and mentally. 

FAVORITE WORKOUT: Anything that doesn't involve thrusters.

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: Cancun, Mexico beach or Pollonia, Greece


HOBBIES: Golf and Cars

HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE CROSSFIT AND WHAT MADE YOU TRY IT OUT ? December 2012. A coworker, Grace, had talked about it for a while and I finally tried it out when she invited me for a workout.

WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT CROSSFIT AT FIRST? I thought I had done some hard workouts in my life, but nothing quite stacks up to workouts like Fran, Grace, or Murph.  The combination of strength and cardio was addicting.


DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT CROSSFIT AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE: Coming from a team sports background in high school and college the camaraderie of the Top Gun community is very similar.  Even though only some workouts we do are partner or team based, the group aspect of every workout makes for a great experience.


FAVORITE WORKOUT: 12 days of Christmas, my first ever workout! Talk about a first impression.
